The biggest surprise took place in Medellin where host ColombianPaisas (2-2) edged league's leader Nicaraguan Real Esteli (2-77) 101-100 on Saturday evening. Paisas made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. Paisas outrebounded Real Esteli 32-13 including a 23-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. Paisas shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. Dominican Victor Liz (190-1986) fired 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winners. American forward Eric Griffin (203-1990, college: Campbell) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Paisas players scored in double figures. Puerto Rican point guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) produced 35 points (!!!) and 5 assists and Puerto Rican-Nicaraguan Jared Ruiz (188-1992) added 24 points respectively for lost side. Real Esteli's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Paisas moved-up to second place, which they share with Boca and Instituto. Real Esteli lost 77th consecutive game. Defending Nicaraguan champion dropped to the third position with 77 games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Sesi/Franca.
